We are about to transform into a full university!
We are very pleased to inform you that on February 4, 2023, during a press conference organised at the premises of our University, Mr Piotr Müller, Polish MP and government press secretary, and Rector of Pomeranian University in Słupsk, professor Zbigniew Osadowski, jointly announced the initiation of the procedure aimed at transforming our institution into a full university.
The minister announced that the government is about to begin the process of assigning the university status to our educational Institution. He empahsised that this would not be possible without the hard work of the entire academic community.
Our researchers achieved six B+ categories and one A category in the recent evaluation of the research output. This allows us to apply for the status of a full university. The high categories bring about qualitative and quantitative changes to our university, since each of these categories grants the right to confer doctor and habilitated doctor degrees in their respective disciplines. They also mean increased funding for research activities. The disciplines in question include: juridical sciences, security sciences, history, literary studies, linguistics, biological sciences, and medical sciences. Other evaluated disciplines achieved high B categories, confirming high quality of research at our university.
According to the law on higher education, the name "University" is reserved for a higher education institution with an academic research category of A+, A or B+ in at least 6 scientific or artistic disciplines, in at least 3 fields of study. However, it should be noted that a decision to transform an education institution into a university is not automatic and requires a legal initiative from the Council of Ministers, who draft a bill, which later has to be voted for by both chambers of the Polish parliament and signed into law by the country’s president.
