Perfect cooperation between Jiyu Gauken (Tokio) and Pomeranian University in Słupsk
Representatives of Jiyu Gakuen College and Pomeranian University in Słupsk met online on 22 June 2022 to confirm strong cooperation between the two institutions, draft future plans regarding staff and student exchange, and, above all, discuss the current situation of Ukrainian students at our University. Jiyu Gakuen has actively participated in our “Help Ukraine”campaign, raising the biggest amount of money.
The video conference was a great opportunity for both partners to recall joint cooperation over the last six years. Throughout this period, there have been four staff and student mobilities to our University, while our staff and students have visited Jiyu Gakuen three times. Despite the pandemic, the cooperation continued uninterrupted, with our Japanese partner joining our 2021 International Day event with video greetings from the President, student presentations, and a concert delivered by Jiyu Gakuen Wind Orchestra.
The major point of the meeting concerned the aid that our University has organised and coordinated for Ukraine. Our representatives summarised all the activities that Pomeranian University launched in order to help Ukrainian students, their families, and other citizens. One of the campaigns consisted in fundraising for student scholarships and researcher grants. Our partners from Tokio raised ¥575,600, or 18,866.44 PLN (approx. 4,000 euro). The President of Jiyu Gakuen has pledged to continue raising funds in the months to come.
The meeting was attended by President of Jiyu Gakuen, professor Kazuya Takahashi, professor Akitsugu Sakihana, coordinator of the fundraising campaign, professor Yasuhiro Yano, Director of Jiyu Gakuen International Centre, professor Yoko Hayano, Vice-Director of the International Center, along with two students, Kazumi Takada, Head of Student Committee, and Ryo Kasuya.
Our University was represented by Recor, professor Zbigniew Osadowski, and Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation, professor Marek Łukasik.
