Our recent support for Ukrainie
Our support package for Ukraine has been in place since the last days of February 2022. Known under an umbrella name as “Pomeranian University for Ukraine”, our direct aid and support activities have been very wide and multi-level. They include: (1) the opening of ‘Welcome Point’, an information desk for Ukrainian students; (2) fundraising campaign; (3) goods collection; (4) free and suspended meal project; (5) psychological and legal counselling; (6) Academic Care Centre; (7) Polish language courses; (8) integration events; (9) our mobile application.
The major aid package titled “Pomeranian University for Ukraine” is a systematic support scheme concerning student fees, accommodation, etc. Link to the circular undersigned by Rector professor Zbigniew Osadowski can be found here (https://bit.ly/3wJZ0ar).

(1) Welcome point is an information desk for Ukrainian students, which is based at Westerplatte 64 (room 506, 4th floor) and is open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. If you need any information about the University, if you need language support or seek any other help, visit us!
(2) Our fundraising campaign is an important element of our directed support. With the help of our Association of Alumni and Employees of Pomeranian University in Słupsk, we plan to grant scholarships and internship grants to students and researchers from Ukraine. We invite all our partner universities, businesses, and all people who are willing to support our Ukrainian friends, to donate to the following bank account:

(3) Since the beginning of March we have also been collecting goods, in the form of clothes, hygienic items, electronic equipment, etc. We opened a special room called “Wardrobe with Love” where we place the collected goods, and Ukrainian students and their families can come and choose whatever they need.
Where? Student Hall of Residence no. 3 (DS 4) at Arciszewskiego 22.
When? Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. till 12 p.m.

(4) We also offered a number of free meals for our Ukrainian students. We have also launched a project known internationally as ‘Suspend a meal’ or ‘Pending meal’. Everyone can join the project and buy, or suspend a meal for our Ukrainian guests. Buy a sandwich or soup and make a difference!

(5) Our university staff have offered their help to support all Ukrainian students who need support.
Psychological assistance:
The Department of Psychology of Pomeranian University in Słupsk offers psychological consultations for students who are in a mental crisis and need help or support.
We organise weekly support group meetings in the Teahouse in Słupsk.When? Wednesdays - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - dr Maria Aleksandrovich (book an appointment now: +48 503 313 253). Languages: Polish, Russian, Belarussian

Legal counselling:
Academic staff of the Institute of Law and Administration of the Pomeranian University in Słupsk offer legal advice to people from war-affected areas.

(6) Academic Care Centre
With our youngest guests from Ukraine in mind, we set up the Academic Care Centre. Run by the Institute of Pedagogy, the meetings are addressed to children aged 5-7. The Centre is supported by second and third year students of Pre-school and Early School Education (from the EduSfera Student Research Club).

(7) Our Foreign Language Study Centre organises free Polish language courses for foreigners. All double degree and exchange programme students as well as the general public can join our courses. All participants can obtain a certificate of participation in the course. Each course amounts to 40 teaching hours, and is taught twice a week in 90-minute sessions.

(8) We also organise a number of integration events that aim at consolidating the entire academic community of Pomeranian University in Słupsk. Focusing on cultural richness, mutual understanding and tolerance, the events have been very popular among all students. The activities so far included:
Jam Session for Ukraine
As part of the project “Aktywna Akademia”, a Jam Session for Ukraine took place on the 24th of March in Teatr Władca Lalek at Dormitory no. 3. The event was opened with concerts of students and friends from various countries: Poland, Ukraine and Macedonia: Yelyzaveta Okunkova, Mariia Horishna, Nataliia Lysak, Grzegorz Gurłacz, David and Matej Manev and Tsybulia Sofiia. It was an atmospheric and moving event, but also one filled with joy, as in this hard time of war we stand united, supporting each other and hope for freedom.
Relaxation workshopsOver the period of the 15th and 22nd of March a series of relaxation workshops, led by Edyta Stępień, took place at the small gymnasium, located in Arciszewskiego 22A, at Pomeranian University in Słupsk. The aims of the workshops were stress relief and trauma alleviation.
Polish films with Ukrainian subtitlesA sequence of Polish films with Ukrainian subtitles is taking place in Kino Rejs.The films that are being screened:
· 30th of March: “Songs About Love”,
· 6th of April: “Other People”,
· 14th of April: “The Sonata”.
(9) Addressed to students of our University and tourists visiting the town of Słupsk, our multilingual mobile application may become really useful when you visit us for the first time. Providing lots of useful information about the town, the region, the university, etc., it also features a Phrasebook with Polish pronunciation of survival words and expressions. APp4Słupsk is also available in Ukrainian for both Android and iOS! Enjoy!
